OUR HISTORY

Our glyph is the moan bird, or owl, messenger of good and bad news on its journey between gods and ancestors. It is attributed with the ability to see the hidden and reveal the truth that dwells around it. Furthermore, it maintains a deep affinity with fire and water, forces that manifest in storms when rain and lightning are unleashed.

Our origin

ORIGIN

During the month of May, ancient cacao planters performed ceremonies dedicated to the god Chak Ek or Hobnil, offering sacrifices that symbolized the color and essence of cacao. These ancestral practices deeply shaped the way I understand spirituality and the sacred bond that Maya culture maintains with nature.

Muwan Travels was born from a personal dream that has accompanied me for years. I am Pilar, a PhD in Mesoamerican Archaeology and a guide, and I have been working for more than 17 years at the great archaeological site of El Mirador, deep in the Guatemalan jungle. From the beginning of my career, I dreamed of creating a travel company that would allow travelers to discover this extraordinary place in an authentic and profound way, guided by the direct experience of someone who has lived and worked there for decades.

Our objective

OBJECTIVE

Guatemala is a country of breathtaking destinations, and El Mirador is, without a doubt, one of its greatest treasures. Following that path, and together with my partner Juan Eduardo, we shaped a concept of archaeological tourism understood as a comprehensive experience. We designed journeys through the country’s most emblematic sites: beginning in Santiago de los Caballeros, present-day Antigua Guatemala, a UNESCO World Heritage Site; continuing on to the majestic Tikal to walk through thousands of years of history; and culminating the experience with a helicopter transfer to the mystical Mirador Basin. All of this is crafted with meticulous attention to detail, including five-star hotels and VIP services.

Our goal is for every person who travels with us not only to visit these places, but to truly live them, feel them, and understand them—taking home unforgettable memories and a genuine connection with an ancient culture that still beats at the heart of Guatemala.
